Three weeks
to go. I switch tabs back to Facebook, then Twitter; another few minutes of
distraction. The thought cuts back in and I sit back, exhale, and close my
eyes. Another slow draw and release. And back to Facebook.
It’s tempting
to ignore the fact that the first leg of my trip is at an end. Tempting, but
alas, unavoidable. My intra-European flights are finished and I’ve settled in
at the university. Now is the time to study for exams and prepare my documents
for the next eight months, as comparatively dull such activities must be.
My time in
Europe has been a whirlwind. It’s an impossible realization that this is just
the beginning of one long and fantastical journey. I have seen an incredible
deal for someone my age, so it is with a distressful resignation that I accept the
ever fleeting emotions, thoughts, and memories which have accompanied me to
this point. My only conciliation is the knowledge that these adventures will
one day discreetly define my character and decisions, even without their
conscious presence.
I’m sorry; I
needed to indulge for a moment. In my own convoluted way, I guess I mean, “Please
standby.” Unless you care to learn about international law or statistical
models, I’m afraid my writings wouldn’t be all that interesting during the next
month. I’ll be back with more exciting stories before you know it! Until then,
enjoy the looming holidays!

P.S. My apologies
to those who are on the email list and may have received a long list of old posts
from last year. If you have a gmail account, things should have been fine, but
I’m not sure how other email hosts dealt with the influx. Either way, I’m sorry and it won’t happen
again!
